Rate of absorption is dependent on:
- concentration gradient between gut and blood
- surface area of contact
- degree of vascularization
Effect of Food on Absorption
- food dilutes alcohol in the digestive system
- fatty foods are slow to digest and slow to move from the stomach to the small intestine
