GENEVA, N.Y.—Four Hobart College lacrosse players were recently named to the Patriot League’s Academic Honor Roll. Senior Peter Cooke (Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville, N.Y.), junior John Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.), and sophomores Matt Kanellis (Cortland/Cortland, N.Y.) and Geoff Zbikowski (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) were among the 54 lacrosse players honored for their efforts in the classroom by the Patriot League.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter.

Hobart’s “Babe” Kraus Award winner (outstanding senior athlete), Cooke graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in history. The attackman scored a goal and assisted two others on the lacrosse field this season. A talented two-sport athlete, Cooke was a second-team All-Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association selection in the fall for the Statesmen soccer team.

An attackman, Bogosian led Hobart in scoring for the second straight season with 37 points (29-8). He was named first-team All-Patriot League this season, after earning second-team recognition a year ago. Bogosian is majoring in media and society.

A defenseman, Kanellis played in all 14 games this season. He picked up 15 ground balls and recorded an assist (against eventual national champion Syracuse). Kanellis is majoring in biology.

An attackman, Zbikowski finished eighth on the team in scoring this season (1-7-8), despite not registering a point in Hobart’s first 10 games. A participant in only half of those games, he came alive in the final four weeks of the season, averaging two points per game against Holy Cross, Loyola, Cornell, and Duke. Zbikowski is a physics major.

The Statesmen won the Patriot League Championship this season with a 5-1 record. Hobart finished the regular season with an overall mark of 6-7 and lost to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges are coordinate, private, liberal arts institutions, located in Geneva, N.Y. Hobart College for men and William Smith College for women share faculty, facilities, and curriculum, but maintain separate dean’s offices, athletics programs, student governments, and traditions. Hobart and William Smith field 21 intercollegiate varsity teams. Over the past 30 years, the Colleges have captured 20 national championships and dozens of conference championships.
