Heron cross country team earns academic honor} March 20, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y. For the ninth straight season the William Smith cross country team was named to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Squad. The Heron runners posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.15 to earn the honor. During the fall, William Smith placed fourth or better in four races, including one first place finish and two second place finishes. The Herons were 14th at both the ECAC Championships and NCAA Regional Championship and for the second consecutive season, a William Smith runner qualified for the NCAA Championships. To be named to the All-Academic Squad teams must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or better. Hobart and William Smith Colleges are coordinate, private, liberal arts
institutions, located in Geneva, N.Y. Hobart College for men and William
Smith College for women share faculty, facilities, and curriculum, but
maintain separate dean's offices, athletics programs, student governments,
and traditions. Hobart and William Smith field 21 intercollegiate varsity
teams. Over the past 30 years, the Colleges have captured 20 national
championships and dozens of conference championships. |
