Shawn GriffinShawn Griffin

Head Coach Hobart Soccer

Just the fifth man to guide the Hobart soccer program, Shawn Griffin is entering his seventh season at the helm. Under his watchful eye, Griffin mentored All-NSCAA Northeast selections Ricky Klotz '05 and Micke Subotowicz '06. Prior to joining the Statesmen in 2001, Griffin served 12 seasons on the soccer staff at Plymouth State (N.H.) University, including eight seasons as head coach.

Griffin guided the 2003 Statesmen to their best overall record (14-7-1) since the 1992 Purple and Orange, including a spot in the Liberty League Championship match and the top-seed in the ECAC Northeast Tournament.

An outstanding motivator and recruiter, Griffin was named the 2003 Liberty League Coach of the Year and has mentored 17 All-Liberty League selections, including the 2003 Liberty League Player and Rookie of the Year. Making a conscience decision to develop the Hobart soccer culture, Griffin's 2005 squad includes three international players.

Griffin holds a national advanced coaching diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and was selected as the NSCAA’s New England Region Coach of the Year in 1998. During his tenure at Plymouth State, Griffin was named the Little East Conference Coach of the Year four times.

A 1988 graduate of Plymouth State, Griffin played on three NCAA Tournament teams, helping the Panthers amass a 52-14-16 (.732) record. As head coach, he led Plymouth State to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 1995, 1997, and 1998, and to the ECAC Tournament in 1993, 1994, and 1999.

Overall, Griffin has compiled a career record of 141-100-19 in 14 years as a head coach.

Griffin lives in Geneva with his wife, Carol, and their three children, Olivia, Connor, and Emily.
