ARLINGTON, VA.—The Hobart College men’s basketball team handed Interim Head Coach Joe Wojtylko a 92-78 win in his Statesmen debut over North Carolina Wesleyan in the opening round of the Comcast Marymount Challenge this evening. Senior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) led all scorers with a career-high 39 points, the second highest single game total in the program’s history.

The Statesmen (3-5), showing no signs of rust coming off the holiday break, took a 44-29 lead into halftime thanks to shooting nearly 61 percent from the floor, while limiting the Battling Bishops (2-8) to just 38.2 percent.

Hobart extended its largest lead to 24 points at the 14:48 mark of the second half, but North Carolina Wesleyan trimmed the Statesmen lead to just eight with 3:55 left to play. Feane, who was a perfect 14-14 from the foul line, dashed the hopes of a Battling Bishop comeback as he knocked down six free throws down the stretch from the charity line. He finished the game 11-18 from the floor with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Senior guard Joe Virgilio (Wheatley/East Williston, N.Y.) also chipped in with 16 points.

Hobart returns to action on Jan. 7, when the Statesmen square off with the host Marymount in the championship round of the Comcast Marymount Challenge. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
