Feane scores 1000th at Skidmore
January 20, 2006
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.--Hobart senior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) scored a team-high 18 points to eclipse the 1,000-career point plateau, but the host Skidmore College Thoroughbreds spoiled the celebration with a 76-75 Liberty League men's basketball win on their home court. Feane is just the 19th Statesman to reach that milestone, raising his total to 1,007 career points.
Feane surpassed 1,000 points with a three-pointer at 12:55 of the second half that gave Hobart a 61-51 lead. Three minutes later, he converted a layup to give his team a 68-53 lead. Feane finished the game 7-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-6 from long range. He also hit 2-of-3 from the free throw line.
From there, Skidmore (4-10, 1-3 Liberty League) staged a furious comeback, outscoring the Statesmen (6-7, 2-2) 23-7 to steal the victory. The Thoroughbreds missed a jumper to take the lead with two seconds remaining, but won on an offensive rebound and a put-back at the buzzer.
Senior guard Joe Virgilio (Wheatley/East Williston, N.Y.) added 16 points for Hobart, while junior forward Mike Mastro (Jericho/Westbury, N.Y.) chipped in a double-double (13 pts, 11 reb).
Greg Gallagher paced Skidmore with 27 points.
Both teams had 28 rebounds and 12 turnovers. Skidmore shot slightly better from the floor (.529-.519) and from beyond the arc (.471-.294).
Hobart is back in action on Jan. 21, when the Statesmen travel to Union. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
