GENEVAMichael J. Hanna ’68, director of athletics at Hobart College, has announced that Joe Wojtylko, who is in his fourth season as an assistant basketball coach for the Statesmen, has been named interim head coach.

“Joe Wojtylko has done a very fine job as our top assistant coach and as a member of our department. I am confident Hobart Basketball will benefit from his leadership and that our student-athletes will play to their potential under his guidance,” Hanna said.

Wojtylko, of Geneva, is a 2000 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy. He received an athletic scholarship to play for the Division II Bobcats, earning Most Valuable Defensive Player in the 1998-99 campaign.

After graduation, Wojtylko helped coach the Bobcats to their most successful season in 10 years. As the assistant, he coordinated all aspects of recruiting, supervised team academic affairs and put together a strength and conditioning program for the players.

He succeeds Rich Roche ’87, who has resigned. Dennis Pysnack and Carl Wenzel will continue to serve as assistant coaches.
