ARLINGTON,VA.—Hobart College senior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) scored a game-high 22 points as the Statesmen defeated Marymount University 58-51 in the championship game of the Comcast Marymount Challenge this evening. Feane, who averaged 30.5 points per game, was named the Most Valuable Player.

Hobart (4-5) and Marymount (5-6) entered the half tied at 28, but the Statesmen used a 9-2 surge to open the second stanza. Feane, who shot 9-17 from the field, drained a jumper with 17:26 remaining to cap the run.

The Saints, led by Charles Atakora, answered with a 13-3 run of their own, taking a 43-40 advantage at the 10:49 mark. Atakora paced Marymount with 15 points off the bench.

Senior forward Tim Apuzzo (Greely/Cumberland, Maine) converted on a layup with 8:10 remaining to put Hobart ahead for good, 46-43.

Senior guard Joe Virgilio (Wheatley/East Williston, N.Y.), who added six points, hit four of five free throws from the charity stripe in the final 50 seconds to secure the Statesmen’s second consecutive win.

Junior guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) also reached double digits for Hobart, finishing with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Joining Feane on the All-Tournament Team was junior forward Mike Mastro (Jericho/Westbury, N.Y.) and Virilio.

Hobart returns to the hardwood on Jan. 13, when the Statesmen host the Vassar Brewers at 8 p.m.
