Statesmen to host Plattsburgh in ECAC Upstate quarterfinal

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College will host Plattsburgh State University in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Upstate Men’s Basketball Tournament at 3 p.m., on March 2, in Bristol Gym. The fourth-seeded Statesmen enter the contest with a 15-10 record, while the fifth-seeded Cardinals are 17-10 overall.
In the other first-round games, top-seeded Oswego will host No. 8 Ithaca (13-13), No. 2 RIT (19-8) will host No. 7 Brockport (16-9), and No. 3 Cortland (18-9) will host No. 6 Skidmore (16-9).
Junior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) leads Hobart in scoring (16.8 ppg), assists (3.17 apg) and steals (2.43 spg). A first-team All-Liberty League selection he has hit at least one three-pointer in each of his 23 games and is shooting an impressive 50.9 percent from behind the arc for the year.
Senior forward Joe Flacke (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) is second in scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounds (6.9), while sophomore forward Mike Mastro (Jericho/Westbury, N.Y.) leads the Statesmen on the boards, averaging 7.5 caroms per game.
Plattsburgh comes to Geneva after falling to SUNYAC Champion Potsdam State in the conference tournament semifinals, 83-70. Junior forward Jelani Simmons leads the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg), and is averaging 2.33 blocks per game. Junior Kris Gibbs-Smith (John Marshall/Rochester, N.Y.) is second on the team in points averaging 11.5 points per game.
The Statesmen and Cardinals share two common opponents in Union and St. Lawrence. Plattsburgh lost at Union 66-60 and defeated St. Lawrence 76-69, while the Statesmen were 2-1 against the Dutchmen and split two games with the Saints during Liberty League play.
Admission to the game is free and will be broadcast by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca).
