GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart suffered just its second loss at home this season, falling to Rensselaer 74-64 in Bristol Gym tonight. With the loss, the Statesmen slip to 14-9 overall, 9-4 in the Liberty League, while the Red Hawks improve to 14-10, 7-6.

Trailing by nine with 13:38 remaining in the contest, Hobart launched a 15-2 run that catapulted the Statesmen into the lead, 57-53. Junior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) kick-started Hobart’s offensive fireworks with a three-pointer. The trifecta tied the Hobart record for consecutive games with a three-pointer made (21), established by Michael Gambino ’02.

Over the next four minutes, the game was a back and forth affair. A layup by junior guard Joe Virgilio (Wheatley/East Williston, N.Y.), tied the contest for the third and final time at 62-all with 3:26 on the clock.

From there it was all Red Hawks. Rensselaer outscored Hobart 12-2 in the final three minutes, including four points each from senior guard Paris Moore (Kellenburg/Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior forward Tom Schneider (Bishop Guertin/Nashua, N.H.). Moore finished the night with a game-high 31 points, while Schneider was close behind with 24 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Junior guard Adam Frederic (Holy Cross/Flushing, N.Y.) paced Hobart with 14 points, including four three-pointers, off the bench. Senior forward Joe Flacke (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) posted his fourth double-double of the season on 11 points and 13 boards. Sophomore guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) also hit double digits for the Statesmen, contributing 13 points.

The loss, coupled with Skidmore’s 74-61 win over Clarkson, drops Hobart into a tie for first place in the Liberty League. The Statesmen close out the regular season at 4 p.m., on Feb. 19, when Vassar visits Bristol Gym.
