#16 Rochester tops Hobart 64-45s

December 7, 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team struggled to solve the University of Rochester defense in the first half, and could not overcome an 18-point halftime deficit, falling to the Yellowjackets 64-45 in Bristol Gym tonight. Sixteenth-ranked Rochester improves to 6-2, while the Statesmen fall to 2-4.

After falling behind by eight early in the contest, Hobart closed to within one, 13-12, on a layup by senior guard Adam Frederic (Holy Cross/Flushing, N.Y.) at the 12:19 mark.

From there, the Yellowjackets went on a 19-2 run to seize control of the game. Junior guard Tim Brackney (Archbishop Spalding/Columbia, Md.) keyed the surge with five of his 12 points on the night.

Rochester, which shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the first half while holding the Statesmen to just 25.9 percent, led 36-18 at halftime.

After the break, both teams subbed liberally playing a much more even game, but Hobart never got closer than 15 down.

Sophomore center Jon Onyiriuka (Corning West/Painted Post, N.Y.) led the Yellowjackets with 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Junior guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) was the only Statesman in double digits, recording 10 points.

Hobart plays its final game before the holiday break on Dec. 17, at Division I Colgate. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
