GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Basketball Head Coach Izzi Metz ’98 recently announced the appointment of Woody Kampmann ’05 to serve as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 season. Kampmann returns to his alma mater after serving in the same capacity at Williams College during the 2005-06 season.
“What immediately strikes you about Woody is his high level of maturity and professionalism for a young coach,” Metz said. “He’s a highly motivated and organized individual who brings endless enthusiasm and passion to the game of basketball and the coaching profession. The Hobart basketball program is very fortunate to have Coach Kampmann back on the HWS campus.”
At Williams, Kampmann was involved in all aspects of the varsity program. He worked closely with the Ephs’ perimeter players assisting with the development of a second-team All-NESCAC player. Williams posted a 17-8 overall record with Kampmann on the bench. He also served as the head coach of the Ephs’ junior varsity team.
Prior to his stint in Williamstown, Mass., Kampmann spent a season as a student assistant coach for the Statesmen. He helped guide Hobart to a 16-11 overall record and a first place finish in the Liberty League regular season standings. Kampmann and the Hobart coaching staff were voted the conference’s coaching staff of the year. In the ECAC Tournament, the Statesmen defeated Plattsburgh in the quarterfinals for Hobart’s first ever postseason win.
As a student-athlete, Kampmann began his collegiate career at Colby College, earning two varsity letters before transferring to Hobart. He also lettered during his first season as a Statesman, before transitioning to the coaching ranks.
Kampmann also has extensive coaching experience on the summer camp circuit, serving as a clinician at the Princeton University Basketball Camp and the Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp, among others.
A native of Hackettstown, N.J., Kampmann earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies from Hobart in 2005.
