GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Men’s Basketball Co-Guard of the Week this afternoon. It’s the second time in three weeks he has earned the award.
In a 2-1 week for the Statesmen, Manning averaged 17.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals, while shooting 64.5 percent from the floor. At Elmira on Tuesday, he scored a game-high 20 points, pulled down six boards, and dished out a game-high six assists to help Hobart to a 68-66 win. In Friday’s 69-54 win at Skidmore, Manning scored a team-high 16 points and collected a game-high 10 caroms. He closed out the week at Union with 15 points, four steals, and three assists.
A starter in all 16 games this season, Manning is averaging 13.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. He is shooting 49.4 percent from the floor, the 12th best shooting percentage in the league and the third best among guards, less than two tenths of a percent behind the top shooting guard. Manning is one of the top thieves in the conference as well, ranking second with 1.88 steals per game.
Hobart (6-10, 2-3) is back in action on Jan. 26, when the Statesmen travel to Liberty League co-leader Vassar (10-4, 4-1). Manning enters the game with 990 career points, aiming to become just the 20th Hobart player to record 1,000 career points. Tipoff against the Brewers is scheduled for 8 p.m.
