Statesmen cagers win 3rd straight

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team won its third consecutive game, knocking off Skidmore 69-54 in Liberty League action tonight. Senior guard Mike Manning (Center Moriches/Mastic, N.Y.) paced the Statesmen with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Junior forward John Grazioli (St. Anthony's/Melville, N.Y.) contributed 11 points and seven boards to the winning effort, while senior forward Kevin Riley (Xavier/Bronx, N.Y.) also scored 11 points. Senior guard Aasim Cunningham (Montclair Kimberley Academy/Montclair, N.J.) added eight points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists, and a game-high three steals.

Jonah Haviland-Markowitz led Skidmore (1-12, 0-4) with 19 points, including four three-pointers.

The Statesmen (6-9, 2-2) carried a 23-19 lead into halftime, but came out on fire in the second half. Hobart hit on 59 percent of its shots from the floor and 15-of-18 from the free throw line in the second stanza, pulling away for a 15-point win.

The Thoroughbreds shot just 34 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 39-25.

Hobart is back in action on Jan. 20, when the Statesmen travel to Union. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
