GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team made eight three pointers in Bristol Gym, but was upstaged by the torrid scoring pace of Union College. The Dutchmen, led by sophomore guard Steve Madej (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills, N.Y.), sank 16 of 26 three-point attempts en route to an 86-68 Liberty League win in Bristol Gym.

Madej finished with a game-high 24 points, all from behind the arc where he converted 8 of 11. It’s the most three pointers made in a game by a player in the Liberty League this season. First-year guard Joey Lokitis (Phillips Academy/Norton, Mass.), sophomore forward Drew Desmarais (Smithtown/St. James, N.Y.), and junior center Kyle Grimm (VVS/Sherrill, N.Y.) also reached double digits with 15, 14, and 12 points, respectively. Sophomore forward Nick Ciresi (Kings Park/Kings Park, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Dutchmen to a 34-26 advantage on the glass.

First-year guard Sean McHugh (Holy Trinity/Mineola, N.Y.) sank six threes for Hobart for a season-high 18 points, while junior forward John Grazilio (St. Anthony’s/Melville, N.Y.) added 16 points.

Union made its first four triple attempts and sank 11 by halftime, taking a 53-30 lead into the break. The Dutchmen shot better from long range (.615) than inside the arc (.500). Hobart trailed from start to finish and never got closer than 16 points down in the second half.

The Statesmen will try to halt their four-game slide tomorrow when they host Skidmore. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats will be available online. Union travels to Hamilton for a 4 p.m. start as well.
