January 6, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College senior forward Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) was named the UCAA Co-Forward of the Week this afternoon. In four games over the holidays, the senior forward averaged 16.8 points and 13.3 rebounds while breaking Hobart's 32-year old career rebounding record. In a 94-86 win over Cazenovia College, Corbett scored 19 points and grabbed 15 boards. Against 20th-ranked Franklin & Marshall College, he recorded his 52nd career double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds, both game-highs. He knocked down 9-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the charity stripe against the Diplomats. The Statesmen faced another daunting foe after Christmas in 12th-ranked and unbeaten Hanover College. Corbett connected on 7-of-11 from the floor for 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, tying the Hobart career rebounding record. The following afternoon against regionally ranked Ursinus College, he broke the record, collecting 15 caroms, and also posted a season-high five steals. Corbett ranks fifth in career scoring at Hobart with 1,316 points, 347 points shy of all-time leading scorer Mike Masino 88. For his career, hes averaging 16.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg, while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor. Hobart is 1-6 on the season and returns to action on Jan. 7, when the Statesmen travel to second-ranked and unbeaten Rochester (8-0). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. |
