February 17, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College senior forward Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered two more weekly accolades this afternoon. He was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Forward of the Week and the Rochester Area College Athletics Co-Male Athlete of the Week. Corbett averaged 22 points and 15.7 rebounds in a 1-2 week for the Statesmen. Against the top-ranked team in the region, Hamilton, he scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out four assists, and made three steals as Hobart posted a 103-101 double overtime win. At Clarkson, he dropped in 20 points, collected 18 caroms, and handed out four assists in a 66-65 loss. The following afternoon at St. Lawrence he dropped in 27 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in a 68-64 defeat. For the week, he shot 54.2 percent from the floor (26-of-48). With three double-doubles, he raised his career total to 66, including 14 in a row. Corbett currently boasts 1,624 career points39 shy of all-time leading scorer Mike Massino '88and 1,206 career rebounds, 239 beyond the second place Statesman. Corbett has been named the UCAA Forward of the Week five times this season, while earning two RACA Male Athlete of the Week awards. RACA is not a conference, but an association to promote outstanding student-athletes at the 10 Rochester area colleges and universities. Hobart (9-13, 6-6 in UCAA) is currently half a game ahead of Rensselaer for the fourth and final spot in the UCAA playoffs. The Statesmen will host the Red Hawks on Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. The following afternoon, Hobart will close out its regular season with Vassar at 2 p.m. The Statesmen will play their final non-conference game at 8 p.m., on Feb. 18, at Ithaca. |
