November 29, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--The Hobart College basketball team evened its record this evening with an 87-74 victory over visiting Ithaca College in Bristol Gymnasium. Junior center Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Statesmen with a game-high 25 points.

Hobart (2-2) scored the first six points of the contest and never looked back. By the 14:22 mark, the Statesmen's lead was in double digits, en route to a 44-33 halftime advantage. Hobart pushed its lead to an even dozen, 11:42 before the intermission, but the Bombers cut their deficit in half with three unanswered baskets. The Statesmen quelled the run with a 13-2 run of their own to build their biggest lead of the half, 35-18. Junior guard Tim Lomot (Amityville/Amityville, N.Y.) sparked the spree with a pair of three-pointers. He finished with a career-high 18 points.

After the break, Ithaca was able to get within nine, 46-37, with less than two minutes gone, but a Brian Schiele (St. Anthony's/Seaford, N.Y.) layup put Hobart's lead back in double digits for good.

Hobart's frontcourt tandem of Corbett and junior forward Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) was nearly unstoppable. Corbett knocked down 11-of-15 shots from the floor, grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists, without a turnover. Herron was 9-of-12 from the floor, finishing with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Senior guard Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.) also reached double digits for the Statesmen, adding 12 points and seven assists to the effort.

Sophomore forward Tyler Schulz (Monroe-Woodbury/Monroe, N.Y.) paced the Bombers with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Dane Fischer (John Marshall/Rochester, Minn.) added 13 points.

Hobart returns to action on Dec. 1, at 4 p.m., when it hosts RIT.
