Corbett named ECAC Upstate Player of the Week title

January 16, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.--Hobart College basketball player Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) is the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Division III Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 13. The junior averaged 19.3 ppg and 15.0 rpg, while shooting 73.5 percent from the floor in three games last week en route to becoming just the 17th Statesman to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Corbett opened the week with 16 points and 15 rebounds in Hobart's 69-57 win at Hilbert on Jan. 8. In the Statesmen's UCAA opener against Vassar on Jan. 11, the center scored 16 points and pulled down 12 boards, while blocking a career-high four shots as Hobart topped the Brewers 79-50. The following afternoon, Corbett scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Statesmen's 78-69 loss to Rensselaer for his 40th career double-double. With the performance the junior joined teammate, senior guard Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, N.Y.) in the 1,000-point club and raised his career total to 1,013.

He leads the Statesmen and the Upstate College Athletic Association in rebounding this season with 11.3 rpg. Corbett is Hobart's leading scorer and is fifth in the league with 16.8 ppg. He was also named the UCAA Center of the Week.

The Statesmen (6-7, 1-1 UCAA) return to action Jan. 18-19, when they travel to Skidmore and Union. Hobart swept the Thoroughbreds and split with the Dutchmen last season.
