Oct 17 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College basketball player Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named a 2001-02 Division III preseason honorable mention All-America by Street & Smith's College Basketball. The publication also listed the Statesmen as a "possible breakthrough" team this season. Last season, Corbett led Hobart in scoring (18.9), rebounding (13.0), field goal percentage (.549), and blocked shots (18). His rebounding average was the nation's second best. The 2000-01 UCAA Player of the Year and the ECAC Upstate New York Player of the Year, Corbett posted 22 double-doubles last year. He broke the school record for free throw attempts in a game (25), free throw attempts in a season (321), and rebounds in a season (364). The five-time UCAA Center/Forward of the Week ranked among the best in the league in scoring (2nd), rebounding (1st), and field goal percentage (2nd). He was also named the UCAA Tournament MVP and a first-team Rochester Area College Athletics Basketball All-Star. Hobart finished the season 2000-01 campaign 20-8, capturing their first UCAA Championship, making their first NCAA Tournament appearance, and setting a school record for wins in a season. The Statesmen return eight lettermen and four starters and will open the season at home with an exhibition game against Niagara College on Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. |
