January 27, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.For the second time in as many weeks and the third time this month, Hobart College senior Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Mens Basketball Forward of the Week. He led Hobart to a 2-1 week, averaging 23.3 ppg, 18.3 rpg, and 4.7 apg. The Statesmen opened the week with a 68-62 overtime win over Utica College. Corbett scored 26 pointsincluding a layup with two seconds remaining to force OTon 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line. He also pulled down 17 boards, handed out six assists, and made two steals against the Pioneers. At Skidmore, Corbett again connected on 10-of-16 from the floor and hit 3-of-4 from the line for 23 points, while collecting 18 caroms in an 83-65 win over the Thoroughbreds. The following afternoon, he produced a 21-point, 20-rebound, six-assist performance in a 93-89 overtime loss at Union. For the week, Corbett shot 58 percent from the floor (29-of-50) and 66.7 percent from the line (12-of-18), scoring 70 points and grabbing 55 rebounds. A finalist for the 2002 Jostens Trophy, Division IIIs Player of the Year Award, Corbett currently leads the UCAA in rebounding (14.5 rpg), and ranks in the top 10 in scoring (3rd, 18.9 ppg), field goal percentage (4th, .581), steals (6th, 1.4 spg), assists (8th, 3.25 spg), and assist-to-turnover ratio (8th, 1.3:1). The Statesmen (6-8, 3-1 in UCAA) return to action at 7:30 p.m., on Feb. 28, at UCAA rival Hamilton College. |
