Herron collects second weekly honor

February 5, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) earned his second weekly honor in as many days when he was named the Rochester Area College Athletics (RACA) Male Athlete of the Week this afternoon. He received the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Forward of the Week award yesterday.

Herron began the week with a 10-point, five-rebound performance at Hamilton on Jan. 29. The solid effort gave no hint of the offensive clinic that was to come. On Feb. 1, against UCAA leading Union, he scored a career-high 30 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the floor, while collecting a team-high nine caroms. The following afternoon against Skidmore he matched his new career-high with 30 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including a pair of dunks. Herron also established a career-best by pulling down 17 boards. He also handed out five assists at the Thoroughbreds expense.

Herron ranks sixth among RACA players in scoring (16.9 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (9.5 rpg). He needs just 26 points to become the third Statesman this season, and 17th overall, to score 1,000 career points.

He’ll get his first shot at 1,000 on Feb. 8, at Rensselaer. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

RACA is not a conference, but rather an association of the 10 Rochester area colleges and universities (Brockport, Geneseo, Hobart, Keuka, Nazareth, Roberts Wesleyan, Rochester, RIT, St. John Fisher, and William Smith) with the aim of recognizing the outstanding achievements of student-athletes.
