Herron secures award with 60-point weekend

February 4, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the UCAA Forward of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3. He averaged 23.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg in a 1-2 week for the Statesmen.

Herron began the week with a 10-point, five-rebound performance at Hamilton on Jan. 29. The solid effort gave no hint of the offensive clinic that was to come. On Feb. 1, against UCAA leading Union, he scored a career-high 30 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the floor, while collecting a team-high nine caroms. The following afternoon against Skidmore he matched his new career-high with 30 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including a pair of dunks. Herron also established a career-best by pulling down 17 boards. He also handed out five assists at the Thoroughbreds expense.

Herron ranks fifth in the league in scoring (17.6 ppg), third in rebounding (9.5 rpg), fourth in blocked shots (0.9 bpg), and eighth in field goal percentage (.545). He needs just 26 points to become the third Statesman this season, and 17th overall, to score 1,000 career points.

He’ll get his first shot at 1,000 on Feb. 8, at Rensselaer. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
