Statesmen win preseason tune-up

GENEVA, N.Y.–The Hobart College basketball team won a preseason exhibition game this afternoon 82-72 over visiting Niagara College of Canada. Junior center Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Statesmen with a game-high 25 points.

Hobart led 37-32 at halftime but trailed late in the second before pulling out the 10-point victory. The Statesmen also turned in a solid performance from the charity stripe, sinking 15-of-16 free throws.

Junior forward Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, NY) also had a strong performance, scoring 16 points. Junior guard Tim Lomot (Amityville/Amityville, NY) added 13 points, including three three-pointers and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Seniors Michael Gambino (Our Lady of Lourdes/Hyde Park, NY) and Brian Schiele (St. Anthony's/Seaford, NY) each chipped in 10 points.

The Statesmen open the regular season Nov. 17 in the Kings Point Tip-off Tournament. Hobart will face Fredonia in the opening round at 6 p.m.
