GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association with a 75-59 win over visiting Clarkson University. Senior forward Joe Corbett (Haverford chool/Philadelphia, Pa.) narrowly missed a triple-double, posting game-highs with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and seven assists.

Prior to the start of the game, Corbett was honored for breaking Hobart’s career rebounding record and for becoming the first Statesman to record 1,000 career caroms. During the game, he added his name to another place in the Hobart records book. Corbett hit all nine of his shots from the floor for a record 1.000 field goal percentage, besting his own 8-of-8 performance on Feb. 15, 2000, against the University of Rochester.

The Statesmen (4-7, 2-0) opened the game with a 9-0 run and never let their advantage slip below six through the remainder of the contest. Hobart led by as many as 22 leaving the only drama up to Corbett. Would he miss?

At halftime, he boasted 22 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 from the line. His only misses of the game came from the free throw line where he finished 7-of-10.

First-year guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while senior forward Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) and senior guard Tim Lomot (Amityville/Amityville, N.Y.) each contributed 10 points.

First-year forward Russ Vitallo (Loomis Chaffee/Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore guard Matt Decker (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) paced Clarkson (5-8, 0-2) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Hobart will close out a four-game homestand on Jan. 21, when Utica College visits Bristol Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
