Strait, Mastro earn UCAA praise

Brad Strait '04

November 24, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior Brad Strait (Fort Plain/Fort Plain, N.Y.) led the Hobart College basketball team to an 84-76 season opening victory at Keuka College on Nov. 21, and earned the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Guard of the Week award for his efforts, while first-year forward Michael Mastro (Jericho/Westbury, N.Y.) was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week.

Strait paced Hobart’s scoring efforts with a game-high 27 points. He hit 6-of-13 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, and was a perfect 13-of-13 from the charity stripe. With smothering defense, Strait also harassed the Storm’s 2002-03 leading scorer, Brian Pelkey, into a miserable 3-of-19 shooting performance.

In his Hobart debut, Mastro came off the bench with an outstanding all-around performance, contributing nine points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a blocked shot in an 84-76 win over Keuka. He knocked down 4-of-7 from the floor, including a three-pointer, in 31 minutes.

The Statesmen return to action at 8 p.m., on Nov. 25, at Cazenovia College.
