Yellowjackets stop Statesmen cagers, 79-62

GENEVA, N.Y.—The University of Rochester improved to 6-0 this evening with a 79-62 victory over Hobart College this evening in Bristol Gym in Division III men’s basketball action. Hobart senior forward Davidek Herron (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 26 points on 12 of 22 shooting and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Statesmen (0-2) played well in their home opener through the first 15 minutes, leading by as many as five, before the Yellowjackets (6-0) used a 9-0 run to take a 34-29 lead at halftime.

Rochester came out of the break on fire. The Yellowjackets sank their first eight shots to balloon their lead to 18, 54-36. Rochester pushed the lead to as many as 21in the second half and never saw it dip below an 11-point advantage. For the game, the Yellowjackets shot 55.9 percent from the floor, including 18 of 26 (69.2%) in the second half.

Rochester junior forward Andy Larkin (St. Xavier/Cincinnati, Ohio) paced the 2002 NCAA semifinalists with 20 points on 10 of 15 shooting, while sophomore forward Seth Hauben (Newton South/Newton, Mass.) added 16 points. Senior guard Tim Sweeney (The Peddie School/Dumont, N.J.) contributed 13 points and a game-high eight assists.

Hobart senior guard Tim Lomot (Amityville/Amityville, N.Y.) also reached double digits with 11 points.

The Statesmen return to action on Dec. 6, at RIT. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
