GENEVA, N.Y.-U.S. Naval Academy Head Coach Rick Clothier recently introduced former Hobart Head Coach Mike Guerrieri as its the new assistant heavyweight crew coach.

A nationwide search for his replacement is underway. William Smith Head Coach Sandra Chu will serve as the interim director of rowing for Hobart and William Smith until Guerrieri's replacement is named.

"I am delighted to have Mike Guerrieri as our new assistant coach," Clothier said. "Mike has already enjoyed much success coaching freshman level athletes and we are looking forward to his working with our team."

Guerrieri served as the head coach of the Statesmen for three years before departing for Annapolis this fall. While at Hobart his boats totaled three medals at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta, including a gold medal in the freshman four in 2003.

Under Guerrieri's leadership, the Statesmen also won five medals in the New York State Championships, including a gold medal in the varsity four in 2003. He made a splash in his first season with the Statesmen, guiding the varsity eight to the collegiate championship in the Head of the Charles, a first for the program.

Guerrieri was selected the Liberty League Coach of the Year in both 2004 and 2005.
