ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart crew logged strong finishes at this year’s Stonehurst Regatta. Hobart’s varsity A boat completed the morning’s 5,000-meter course in a time of 16:58.72 placing them seventh out of 22 crews going into the afternoon’s racing. The Hobart varsity B boat finished with a time of 17:38.73

Senior Mike Hoepp, juniors Tim Faxon, Gavin Johnstone-Butcher, and Daniel Gilbert, sophomores Nathan Kress, Joseph Jameson, Paul Wasmund, and Michael Grenier, and first-year Richard Klein competed in the varsity A boat, while the varsity B boat featured senior Matthew Monbouquette, sophomores Alexander Caruthers, Jared Desrochers and Robert Reinheimer, and first-years Travis Deane, Trippe Duke, Alex Tye, Andrew Meunier, and Cary Wasserman.

In the afternoon sprint racing, the Hobart varsity A clocked an impressive time of 4:29.63 which was the second fastest Collegiate time and fifth overall in front of Syracuse, Canadian schools Brock and Queens College and the rest of the field of 22. The Hobart B boat wasn’t far behind, defeating the Dartmouth B boat by 4.19 seconds in 4:40.91.

“Both Hobart boats raced well in the afternoon sprint races,” Head Coach Mike Guerrieri said. “I asked the varsity A boat to turn up their intensity levels for the sprint race and they did. They covered the 1,500-meter course faster than Syracuse and Brock, two of the schools that beat them in the morning races.”

In the final combined results the Hobart varsity A boat placed third in the collegiate division and seventh overall, the highest finishing Division III team. The Hobart B boat placed ninth in the collegiate division—the best showing for the Statesmen’s second boat in the Stonehurst Regatta—15th overall.

Hobart’s next race is the Wylie Chase on Oct. 16, also in Rochester.
