Hobart crew earns third straight weekly honor

May 3 , 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College varsity four recently earned Liberty League Boat of the Week honors for the fourth time this season after capturing the silver medal at the New York State Championships this past weekend. The Statesmen have dominated the league’s weekly awards this season, garnering the accolade in four of the five weeks, including each of the past three.

Junior Tim Faxon (Salisbury School/Pelham, N.Y.), sophomores Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), and Alex Caruthers (Bishop O’Dowd/Kensington, Calif.), and first-year James Spalt (Tabor Academy/Barnstable, Mass.) covered the course in 7:12.3, just two seconds behind University of Rochester. The runner-up finish earned the four a spot in the upcoming ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships.

The Statesmen will travel to Worcester, Mass., for the ECAC Championships on May 7-8. The varsity eight, novice eight, and varsity four all will compete for Hobart.
