Freshman 8+ wins at Syracuse

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College crew team competed in the Syracuse Invitational today. The novice eight came in first of 11 teams, finishing the race in a time of 17:29. Cornell boats took second and third, while Syracuse placed fourth.
The novice eight was powered by Hobart first-years Harrison Goldberg (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), Richard Mable (Pomfret School/Pomfret, Conn.), Carmen Cimini (Newport Harbor/Newport Beach, Calif.), Matt Scanlon (McQuaid Jesuit/Fairport, N.Y.), Francis Craig (Walt Whitman/Bethesda, Md.), Steven Valchuis (Brooks School/North Andover, Mass.), Kenny Roden (West Potomac/Alexandria, Va.), William Bearse (Bridgton Academy/North Brigdton, Maine), and Matt Bruen (South Kent/Sherman, Conn.).
The varsity four saw a last-minute change in its lineup, and finished its race 13th out of 17 teams, recording a time of 19:05. The second varsity four registered a 14th place finish, completing the race in a time of 19:18.
This was the final race of the fall season for the Statesmen.
