Statesmen earn 4 medals in Head of Fish

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Hobart crew won four medals in the five events the team entered at the Head of the Fish. The varsity eight and novice eights both won their events, while the second varsity eight took second and the second novice eight was third.
In the varsity eight, Hobart covered the course in 10:09.39, besting runner up Wesleyan by more than six seconds. The Statesmen bested a field of 20 boats, including Division I crews from UMass, Rhode Island, Binghamton, Fairfield, and Albany. Alex Caruthers, Joe Jameson, Richard Klein, Nate Kress, Sep Levatich, Rob Reinheimer, Matt Scanlon, Michael Talarico, Paul Wasmund guided Hobart to victory.
In the novice eight race, Hobart’s first entry of Asa Bearse, Matt Bruen, Darragh Clarke, Franics Craig, Corey Critchell, Ben D’Innocenzo, Harrison Goldberg, Scanlon, and Steven Valchuis posted a winning time of 10:40.25. Williams slipped across the finish line second 37 seconds later, less than a second ahead of Hobart second novice eight of Carmen Cimini, Tom Cullinan, Nathan Felsenfeld, Chris Jenco, Richard Mable, Simon Robinson, Kenny Roden, Augie Smith, and Stephen Sweeney.
The Statesmen second varsity eight took second out of seven boats in the open junior varsity race, 24 seconds behind Wesleyan but ahead of boats from UMass, Rhode Island, and Rensselaer among others. The second varsity eight was powered by Dan Allen, Chip Armstrong, Ben Draper, John Heavey, Nick Hoagland, Chris Moore, Andrew O’Donnell, Ben Ramsey, and Mark Vogelgesang.
Hobart also entered a boat in varsity four race, finishing 25th out of 39 teams.
The Statesmen close out their fall schedule on Nov. 4, in the Syracuse Invitational.
