Hobart crew earns 2nd bronze at States

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.—The Hobart crew team won a second bronze medal today in the final day of racing in the New York State Championships. Following a bronze medal in the second varsity eight on Saturday, the Statesmen earned another third place finish in the novice eight.

Mike Talarico, Andrew O'Donnell, John Heavey, Chris Moore, Jake Podkaminer, Ben Ramsey, Garrett McIntyre, Matt Gruppo, and Dan Allen produced a medal-winning performance, only trailing Division I Army and Marist. The novice Statesmen crossed the finish line 6:23.8, 1.4 seconds ahead of fourth place RIT.

In the varsity eight grand final, Hobart finished fourth in 6:02.9. Dan Gilbert, Gardner Loring, JM Chadonic, Tim Faxon, Mike Grenier, Sep Levatich, Alex Tye, Richard Klein, and Drew Meunier were less than four seconds behind overall winner Marist and just 0.5 seconds shy of third place RIT.

The Statesmen are back on the water on May 13-14 in the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass.
