In the grand final at the New York State Championships, first-years Mike Talarico (Falmouth/Falmouth, Mass.), Andrew O’Donnell (Salisbury School/Ancramdale, N.Y.), John Heavey (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Chris Moore (CB West/Doylestown, Pa.), Jake Podkaminer (Charles O. Dickenson/Trumansburg, N.Y.), Ben Ramsey (Carnegie Vanguard/Houston, Texas), Garrett McIntyre (Fairport/Fairfield, Conn.), Matt Gruppo (Fairfield/Fairfield, Conn.), and Dan Allen (Cohasset/Cohasset, Mass.) produced a bronze medal-winning performance, trailing only Division I Army and Marist. The novice Statesmen crossed the finish line 6:23.8, 1.4 seconds ahead of fourth place RIT. Hobart’s Novice 8 won its preliminary heat, besting the boats from Army, Hamilton, RIT, and Rensselaer.

The Statesmen are back on the water on May 13-14 in the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass.
