Hobart varsity 8+ honored by Liberty League

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart varsity 8+ was named the Liberty League Men's Crew Boat of the Week after earning a bronze medal at the Head of the Genesee on Oct. 8.
The Statesmen finished third in the collegiate division and placed ninth overall. Senior Alex Caruthers (Bishop O’Dowd/Kensington, Calif.), senior Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), senior Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.), senior Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), senior Sep Levatich (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), senior Rob Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), sophomore Mike Talarico (Falmouth/Falmouth, Maine), and senior Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.) posted a championship time of 28:48.64, trailing only Marietta (28:19.07) and Florida Tech (28:36.93) in the collegiate standings, while besting co-hosts Rochester and RIT.
The Head of the Genesee features a 5-kilometer head race in the morning and a 1,500-meter sprint in the afternoon. The afternoon time is multiplied by three and added to the morning time for the total championship time.
Hobart is back on the water when the Statesmen co-host the HWS Challenge on the Canal on Oct. 14.
