Hobart’s varsity 8 honored by Liberty League

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart varsity eight was named the Liberty League Men’s Crew Boat of the Week this afternoon.
On April 1, the varsity eight of senior Dan Gilbert (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), sophomore Alex Tye (Kent School/New Canaan, Conn.), senior Gardner Loring (Middlesex/Duxbury, Mass.), senior JM Chadonic (The Lawrenceville School/New York, N.Y.), junior Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), junior Sep Levatich (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), junior Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), and senior Tim Faxon (Salisbury School/Pelham, N.Y.) defeated Ithaca by 2.2 seconds with a time of 6:20.2 to secure the Statesmen Cup and advance to the grand final. In the afternoon’s racing, Hobart shaved nearly five seconds off its morning time, placing third behind the Cornell lightweights and Marist.
The previous weekend, the Statesmen hosted Rochester and Rensselaer. Hobart won with a time of 6:18.88, nearly six seconds better than the Yellowjackets and well ahead of the Red Hawks.
The Statesmen are back on the water April 8-9, when they compete in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J.
