Statesmen earn bronze, book 2 spots in grand finals

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.—The Hobart crew team won a bronze medal and earned a spot in the grand finals of two other events during the first day of racing at the New York State Championships. The Statesmen second varsity eight brought home the bronze, trailing only Division I foes Army and Marist.
Mario Sola, Paul Wasmund, Joe Jameson, Alex Caruthers, Mark Vogelgesang, Mike Guglielmo, Nate Kress, Vince DeFabo, and JD Pribor guided the second varsity eight across the finish line in 5:35.61, less than six seconds behind the victorious Black Knights.
Both the Hobart varsity eight and the novice eight won their preliminary heat to advance to tomorrow's grand finals. The varsity eight of Dan Gilbert, Gardner Loring, JM Chadonic, Tim Faxon, Mike Grenier, Sep Levatich, Alex Tye, Richard Klein, and Drew Meunier finished more than three seconds ahead of Army in 5:57.8, while the novice eight of Mike Talarico, Andrew O'Donnell, John Heavey, Chris Moore, Jake Podkaminer, Ben Ramsey, Garrett McIntyre, Matt Gruppo, and Dan Allen logged a time of 6:04.58.
