Statesmen medal in Head of Genesee

October 8, 2006

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart crew compete in the Head of the Genesee today. The varsity eight won the bronze medal in the collegiate division and placed ninth overall.

Alex Caruthers, Mike Grenier, Joe Jameson, Richard Klein, Nate Kress, Sep Levatich, Rob Reinheimer, Mike Talarico, and Paul Wasmund posted a championship time of 28:48.64, trailing only Marietta (28:19.07) and Florida Tech (28:36.93) in the collegiate standings, while besting co-hosts Rochester and RIT.

The Head of the Genesee features a 5-kilometer head race in the morning and a 1,500-meter sprint in the afternoon. The afternoon time is multiplied by three and added to the morning time for the total championship time. As opposed to previous years, only half of the crews racing in the morning were allowed to progress to the afternoon’s sprint. Hobart entered two other eights, but neither advanced to the sprints.

Hobart is back on the water when the Statesmen co-host the HWS Challenge on the Canal on Oct. 14.
