GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart varsity eight was named the Liberty League Men’s Crew Boat of the Week by the conference office today. It’s the fifth time this season that the Statesmen’s top boat has earned the award and the sixth time a Hobart boat has captured the weekly honor.
At the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass., the varsity eight of senior Dan Gilbert (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), senior Gardner Loring (Middlesex/Duxbury, Mass.), senior JM Chadonic (The Lawrenceville School/New York, N.Y.), senior Tim Faxon (Salisbury School/Pelham, N.Y.), junior Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), junior Sep Levatich (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), sophomore Alex Tye (Kent School/New Canaan, Conn.), sophomore Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.), and sophomore Drew Meunier (Shenendehowa/Round Lake, N.Y.) helped Hobart earn a spot in the grand final for the first time since 2003.
The Statesmen sped through its opening heat in 5:59.354, second only to the University of Virginia. In the semifinals, the Statesmen beat out Colgate, UC Davis and Wesleyan for third place and the final spot in the grand final. Hobart’s final 2,000-meter time of the weekend, 6:01.203, placed the boat sixth in the heat and in the overall varsity eight standings.
