12 in a row: Statesmen win another Liberty award

Liberty League logoGENEVA, N.Y.—For the 12th consecutive time, the Hobart crew earned the Liberty League Boat of the Week award. The Statesmen varsity four took this week’s honors following a gold-medal performance in the Knecht Cup.

Hobart placed first out of 10 teams in the varsity four event. The Statesmen placed second in their opening heat with a time of 7:04.5, 0.4 seconds behind Catholic, to earn a spot in the finals. Hobart went on to win the grand final, covering the 2,000-meter course in a time of 7:00.0, more than three seconds ahead of second-place Mary Washington.

The boat was powered by sophomore coxswain Cary Wasserman (Salisbury School/Salisbury, Conn.), sophomore stroke Ben Ramsey (Carnegie Vanguard/Houston, Texas), sophomore John Heavey (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), sophomore Andrew O’Donnell (Salisbury School/Ancramdale, N.Y.), and senior bow Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.).

Hobart is back on the water, April 21, when the Statesmen travel to Hamilton, N.Y., for the annual Seneca Cup against Colgate.
