Hobart V8+ wins another league award

April 9, 2007

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College crew team earned its 11th consecutive Liberty League Boat of the Week award today. The Statesmen’s varsity eight earned the honor after edging Grand Valley State University on Saturday in cold, snowy conditions on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal.

Hobart won an exciting back-and-forth race with GVSU, coming from behind to finish with a time of 7:09.58, just .55 seconds and approximately 10 feet ahead of the Lakers (7:10.03). The Statesmen rowed past the Lakers after being half a boat length behind with just 400 meters to go.

The varsity eight was manned by sophomore Cary Wasserman (Salisbury School/Salisbury, Conn.), junior Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.), junior Drew Meunier (Shenendehowa/Round Lake, N.Y.), senior Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), senior Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), senior Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), senior Rob Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), senior Alex Caruthers (Bishop O’Dowd/Kensington, Calif.), and senior Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.).

Hobart will be back on the water on April 14 when they compete in the Knecht Cup, starting at 7 a.m.
