Hobart crew wins 2nd straight league title

WADDINGTON, N.Y.—The Hobart College crew team won its second-straight Liberty League Championship today on the St. Lawrence River. The Statesmen won three of their four races to win the overall team point total.

The Hobart crew team won its second straight Liberty League title.

Hobart’s varsity eight, powered by Cary Wasserman, Richard Klein, Sep Levatich, Mike Grenier, Joe Jameson, Paul Wasmund, Rob Reinheimer, Alex Caruthers, and Drew Meunier, finished more than 17 seconds ahead of runner-up Union, with a time of five minutes, 23 seconds.

The second varsity eight came in second in a tight race with St. Lawrence. The Statesmen posted a time of 5:41.59, just .62 seconds behind the Saints. The second varsity eight was manned by Caitlin Holtz, Richard Mable, Chris Jenco, Andrew Fosbrook, Tim Starr, Vince DeFabo, William Bearse, Matt Gruppo, and Dan Allen.

The Statesmen’s varsity four and novice four also won today. The V4+ rowed past second-place Skidmore with a time of 6:05.36, more than 10 seconds ahead of the Thoroughbreds, while the N4+ came in just over seven seconds in front of St. Lawrence, with a time of 6:02.88. Mike Talarico, Andrew O’Donnell, John Heavey, Ben Ramsey, and Nate Kress powered the varsity four, while Harrison Goldberg, Matthew Scanlon, Francis Craig, Steven Valchuis, and Carmen Cimini powered the novice four.

Hobart will be back on the water on May 5-6 when it competes in the New York State Championships at Whitney Point, N.Y.
