WEST WINDSOR, N.J.—Hobart oarsman Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.) qualified for the 2007 World Rowing Under 23 Championships today. He will make his second consecutive appearance in the international event July 26-29 in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Klein will compete in the men's lightweight quadruple sculls after besting the qualifying standard at the U.S. U23 National Team Trials. Klein, along with Matt Carey, Chris Lambert, Chris Klotzbach covered the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 5.034 seconds, well under the 6:08 World standard.

While Klein is making a return trip, the three men in the boat are all different from the three he competed with last year in Hazewinkel, Belgium. Last year, Klein and his crew took the silver medal, crossing the line just 0.03 seconds behind Germany.

Just like last year, Klein will document his experiences throughout the championships with a blog on the Statesmen Web site.

A two-year member of the Hobart varsity eight, Klein has helped the Statesmen to back-to-back Liberty League Championships and consecutive Liberty League Crew of the Year awards. As a first-year, he was a member of the Liberty League Novice Crew of the Year.
