Silver Sunday: Statesmen earn 2 more medals at States

May 6 , 2007

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.—The Hobart crew team earned silver medals in the varsity eight and the varsity four this morning at the New York State Rowing Championships. The effort raised the Statesmen medal count to three, following yesterday's gold in the novice eight.

"I'm extremely pleased with how the guys performed in all three boats this weekend," Head Coach Mike Alton said. "We're looking forward to next weekend's ECAC Championships on the same course. I think we can do very well."

The varsity eight trailed only Marist at the finish line of the 2,000-meter course. The Statesmen lagged behind the pack midway through the race but made a strong surge, rowing through several boats before crossing the line. Cary Wasserman, Richard Klein, Sep Levatich, Mike Grenier, Joe Jameson, Paul Wasmund, Rob Reinheimer, Alex Caruthers, and Drew Meunier powered Hobart home in 5 minutes, 58.7 seconds, 1.8 seconds behind the Red Foxes. Army grabbed the bronze followed by Colgate, Ithaca, and RIT.
