Statesmen win 4 against GVSU

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College crew team won four out of seven races against Grand Valley State University on Saturday in cold, snowy conditions on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal.

The Statesmen varsity eight had an exciting win over the Lakers, finishing in a time of 7:09.58, just .55 seconds ahead of GVS (7:10.03). With the experience of six seniors on board, the varsity eight edged Grand Valley after being half a boat length behind with 400 meters to go. The boat was powered by sophomore Cary Wasserman, senior Richard Klein, junior Drew Meunier, senior Mike Grenier, senior Joe Jameson, senior Paul Wasmund, senior Rob Reinheimer, senior Alex Caruthers, and senior Nate Kress.

Closing in on the finish line, Hobart (outside lane) has pulled ahead of Grand Valley State. The Statesmen won by little more han half a second in near whiteout conditions.

The Statesmen novice eight also posted a victory, finishing their race in a time of 7:23.7, while the varsity four A (8:00.4) and second varsity four (8:14.2) handily defeated the Lakers in their races as well.

Hobart will be back on the water on April 14 when they compete in the Knecht Cup, starting at 7 a.m.
