Hobart crew completes busy weekend

April 6, 2003

SAN DIEGO, Calif.-The Hobart Varsity crew team competed in the San Diego Crew Classic this weekend. Due to a mechanical failure on Saturday, which disabled the coxswain's amplification system, the Statesmen were unable to qualify for the final on Sunday. However, the group of Kevin Stevenson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), Dave Undercoffler (Ithaca/Canandaigua, N.Y.), Matthew Monbouquette (Moses Brown/Warkwick, R.I.), Tyler Spence (St. Ignatius College Prep/Lake Shore, Ill.), Haviland Campbell(The Lawrenceville School/Philadelphia, Pa.), Brandon Currie (Wilsonville/Lake Oswego, N.Y.), Michael Fazio (Lakeland/Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), Michael Hoepp (Chaote Rosemary Hall/Bedford, N.H.) and coxswain Dan Gilbert (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.) posted the fastest time (6:13.00) in their category of the Men's Cal Cup Petite Final on Sunday.

Also competing this weekend for Hobart, with a scrimmage against Ithaca, were the Hobart JV8 and the Frosh 4. The JV8 defeated Ithaca and the Frosh 4 came out on top against Hamilton and Ithaca by over 20 seconds.

The Statesmen are back in action when they travel to RIT on April 12th.
