June 1, 2004 The team is honored to get this chance to compete at the highest collegiate level, Head Coach Mike Guerrieri said. Only a select few institutions get the opportunity to experience these championships each year. The varsity four with coxswain features three oarsmen and the coxswain from last years IRA freshman four gold medal boat: sophomores Gavin Johnstone-Butcher (St. Paul's School (N.H.)/Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), Gardner Loring (Middlesex/Duxbury, Mass.), J.M. Chadonic (The Lawrenceville School/New York, N.Y.), and Daniel Gilbert (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.). The four also features junior Michael Hoepp (Choate Rosemary Hall/Bedford, N.H.) who stroked Hobart's top eight to the gold medal at the Head of the Charles in 2002 and was a member of the varsity eight that finished second at the ECAC Championships in 2003. The varsity pair features senior Havilland Campbell (LaSalle/Philadelphia, Pa.) at stroke and sophomore Tim Faxon (Salisbury School/Pelham, Mass.), who was a member of last years IRA gold medal-winning freshman four. Also selected to participate in the IRA Championship was the Hobart freshman eight. This line-up includes Nick Hoagland (Millbrook School/New York, N.Y.), Ben Draper (The Branson School/San Anselmo, Calif.), Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), Mike Grenier (Brooks School/Methuen, Mass.), Joseph Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), Dave Drennan (Greenhills School/Ann Arbor, Mich.), Rob Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), Sep Levatich (Ithaca/Brooktondale, N.Y.). This years freshmen eight went undefeated in the regular season, Guerrieri said. Now they'll test their mettle in one of the most competitive events in collegiate rowing. |
