Competing on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, Hobart’s freshmen eight notched a resounding victory this past weekend, outracing visiting RIT by 18.64 seconds. Covering the course in 7:08.69, the group of Nick Hoagland (Millbrook School/New York, N.Y.), Ben Draper (The Branson School/San Anselmo, Calif.), Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), David Drennan (Greenhills School/Ann Arbor, Mich.), Robert Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), Alex Caruthers (Bishop O’Dowd/Kensington, Calif.), and Jared Desrochers (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned its third consecutive victory.

The Statesmen return to action on April 18, when Colgate visits the Hellstrom Boathouse. The winner of the varsity eight race will take home the Seneca Cup. Hobart has won three of the past four Seneca Cup races, including last season’s 1.5-second victory over the Raiders.
