April 14, 2004 GENEVA, N.Y.The Hobart freshman eight earned its second weekly award today. One day after being named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Boat of the Week, the Statesmen were tabbed the ECAC Co-NIR Crew of the Week. Competing on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, Hobarts freshmen eight notched a resounding victory this past weekend, outracing visiting RIT by 18.64 seconds. Covering the course in 7:08.69, the group of Nick Hoagland (Millbrook School/New York, N.Y.), Ben Draper (The Branson School/San Anselmo, Calif.), Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), David Drennan (Greenhills School/Ann Arbor, Mich.), Robert Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), Alex Caruthers (Bishop ODowd/Kensington, Calif.), and Jared Desrochers (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned its third consecutive victory. The Statesmen return to action on April 18, when Colgate visits the Hellstrom Boathouse. The winner of the varsity eight race will take home the Seneca Cup. Hobart has won three of the past four Seneca Cup races, including last seasons 1.5-second victory over the Raiders. |
