In difficult cross-headwind conditions, Hobart's varsity eight crossed the line with a time of 6:32.0, 16.5 seconds ahead of runner-up University of Rochester and the rest of the field of eight.

The freshmen boat comprised of coxswain Nick Hoagland (Millbrook School/New York, N.Y.), stroke Ben Draper (The Branson School/San Anselmo, Calif.), seventh seat Nate Kress (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), sixth seat Paul Wasmund (Fabius-Pompey/Fabius, N.Y.), fifth seat Joe Jameson (Brebeuf Jesuit/Indianapolis, Ind.), fourth seat David Drennan (Greenhills School/Ann Arbor, Mich.), third seat Robert Reinheimer (Cheverus/Bowdoinham, Maine), second seat Alex Caruthers (Bishop O’Dowd/Kensington, Calif.), and bow Jared Desrochers (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park, N.Y.) logged an impressive win in a time of 6:39.8, 30 seconds in front of Union College.

"The team has remained on track to fulfill its spring sprint racing goals thus far," said Head Coach Mike Guerrieri. "Our biggest tests come in the next few weeks as we face competitive programs from around the state and nation."

In other racing, the Hobart varsity four of senior coxswain Sarah Roberts (Burnt Hills Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills, N.Y.), junior stroke Tyler Spence (St. Ignatius College Prep/Lake Shore, Ill.), first-year third seat Chip Armstrong (St. Anthony’s/Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), first-year second seat Mike Guglielmo (Northern Highlands/New York, N.Y.), and first-year bow Andy King (Bethlehem Central/Delmar, N.Y.) finished second out of four boats, covering the course in a time of 7:35.2.
