GENEVA, N.Y.--Hobart crew received bids this week for its varsity eight and freshmen eight for the 2004 ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships, May 8-9, in Worcester, Mass.

Hobart’s undefeated varsity eight is currently ranked 19th in the country and is seeded third in this year’s championship. The Hobart first-years, who are also undefeated, will begin the regatta seeded sixth out of 18 schools.

“It doesn’t get much more exciting than this,” Head Coach Mike Guerrieri said. “Only top finishes will allow us to progress to the national championships next month. This has been our goal all year and I think the team is ready for the challenge.”

Racing begins with the varsity eight heats at 3 p.m., on May 8, followed by the freshman eight heat at 3:50 p.m., at Lake Quinsigamond. Semifinals and finals will be held on May 9, with racing beginning at 10 a.m.

The varsity eight raced this past weekend in the New York State Championship where it won its heat to qualify for the final. After that heat, however, racing was cancelled due to high winds and dangerous course conditions.
